1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease, but only 36% are diagnosed,
according to the charity Coeliac UK, whose mission is to help raise awareness
of the disease and highlight the importance of proper diagnosis, management,
and gluten-free living. They aim to ‘shine a light on this misunderstood
disease and get more people on the road to recovery, more quickly.’ Find out
more at coeliac.org.uk.
Gluten-free pies have become increasingly popular in recent years for various
reasons. Some people are required to follow a gluten-free diet for medical
conditions like coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity, whilst others simply
want to reduce their gluten intake as a lifestyle choice.
Mud’s range of gluten-free pies
Here at Mud, we were asked so frequently if we could bring out a
gluten-free range of pies, that
Christian decided to look into it. Much toil and hard work later, he is
delighted with the range of delicious gluten-free pies we now offer. On the basis that gluten free shouldn’t and doesn’t need to be a compromise
on taste, Christian and his pastry team worked tirelessly, spending many hours
on trials, to perfect a gluten-free pastry that as closely emulates our
traditional pastry as possible. “Being an absolute piefectionist,” says
Christian, “I was determined to make sure that the pastry would have the same
rich buttery taste and delicate texture of our traditional pastry, despite
using gluten-free flour.” And he’s only gone and done it. This is what Mud fan Ruth T from Lanarkshire had to say: “This company have clearly gone to the ends of the earth to develop a gluten
free pastry which is stunning. That development and commitment not to just
turning out any old pastry has to be applauded. Worth every penny.
Congratulations.” And the fillings? Yes, they’re all gluten free too.
Our best-selling gluten-free pie
One of our customer favourites is
Gluten-Free Steak and Ale Pie, which contains the very best ingredients from in and around our home in
the heart of the South Downs. Tender chunks of select prime hand-cut
steak, gently and slowly simmered to the point of perfection and
succulence in a rich beef gravy, with lashings of craft Porter Ale from
Greyhound Brewery and a good dash of Henderson’s Relish for a hint of
spice. All encased in our unique buttery gluten-free pastry.
Mud’s champion gluten-free pie
The other best-selling gluten-free pie Mud offers is our
Gluten-Free Chicken, Ham and Leek Pie, which was Class Champion at the 2023 British Pie Awards and therefore
deserves a special mention. It was the first time being crowned champion
with one of our recently-launched gluten-free range, so it was a
particularly proud moment for Christian.
Our award-winning range of gluten-free pies
We also offer
Gluten-Free Steak and Kidney Pie
and
Gluten-Free Chip Shop Chicken Curry Pie. Plus our best-selling squiche (that’s a square quiche!),
Red Onion Marmalade and Brie Squiche. Our four side dishes are also gluten-free – choose between
Beer Battered Chips,
Buttery Mashed Potato,
Carrot and Parsnip Mash
and
Southern Fried Potatoes.
Like all our other pies, our gluten-free pies are handmade in small
batches using only the finest ingredients, and we never use any artificial
preservatives or additives. These pies are perfect for those looking for a
hearty and comforting gluten-free meal, with a homemade taste.
We’re building a growing community of gluten-free lovers, judging by the
comments we receive daily from happy customers, like this from Sue H in
Tiverton, Devon:“It's honestly the best I've ever tasted that's gf. I usually buy another
make in supermarkets, but from now on I will order from here. Trust me
they are just like "normal" pies, something worth paying the price
for.” And this from Suzanne M in Worcestershire: “Gluten Free pies are fabulous. My husband didn't realise they were GF
until I told him.”At Mud we believe that gluten-free food should be just as tasty and
satisfying as its gluten-containing counterpart. We understand the
importance of catering to those with different dietary requirements and
strive to make our gluten-free pies accessible for everyone. We offer
nationwide shipping, so that you can enjoy our delicious pies no matter
where you are. Why not try them today and taste the difference for
yourself! FAQ

How to Serve Gluten-free Pies
When serving your gluten-free pies, there are many options for side dishes
that are both delicious and gluten-free. Here are some ideas for what to serve
with your gluten-free pie. Green vegetables: serve your gluten-free pie with a side dish
of green vegetables such as steamed broccoli, roasted asparagus, or sautéed
spinach. These vegetables provide a healthy, nutrient-rich contrast to the
richness of the pie. Roasted vegetables: roasted vegetables are a delicious and
flavourful side dish for gluten-free pies. You can roast a mix of vegetables
such as carrots, potatoes and onions, with herbs and spices for a colourful
and tasty accompaniment to the pie.
Mashed potatoes: mashed potatoes are a classic side dish that
pairs well with most savoury pies. If you want to include gravy, in order to
keep the meal gluten-free, use gluten-free flour or corn starch to thicken.
You can also add in some roasted garlic, herbs, or cheese to make the mashed
potatoes even tastier.
Chips: pie and chips is a classic combination and the same is
still true if it's a gluten-free pie! There are lots of different types of
chips, from thick cut to thin cut, so to help you choose we'd recommend our
beer-battered chips.
Just on their own: of course, a gluten-free pie can also be
enjoyed on its own without any side dishes. The filling and crust of the pie
provide enough flavour and texture to make it a satisfying meal just as it is,
hot out of the oven.
Whichever side dishes you choose, just make sure you always read the labels of
any packaged foods or ingredients to ensure they are certified gluten-free.
